Summer Camps FAQ
Got questions? We’ve got answers!
1. WHERE IS SUMMER CAMP?
We are located in the basement of Virginia-Highland Church:
743 Virginia Ave. NE
Atlanta, GA 30306.
2. WHEN CAN I DROP OFF AND PICK UP MY CHILD?
You can drop off as early as 8:30am and pick up no later than 1:15pm.
3. WHAT SHOULD WE BRING TO CAMP?
A lunch that is nut-free and a water bottle. We will have snacks for them at camp.
4. WHERE DO I PARK?
Street parking is available next to the church. There is parking right next to the church on Ponce De Leon Place or in the neighborhood behind the church on Virginia Circle.
5. WHAT IS MY CHILD GOING TO LEARN AT CAMP?
Beginner Piano Camp: Kids will learn basic rhythm notes (quarter, half, dotted half and whole notes, the keys on the piano and where they are, and will even begin to learn how to read music. Students in our camps are able to learn at their own pace. This means we will truly take them as far as they are capable! On average, they will learn 10 piano lessons worth at camp. You will be truly amazed how much they will learn in 1 week!
Ukulele Camp: Kids will learn the ins and outs of the ukulele, how to read TABs, and how to play chords. We will be using the Rainbow Ukulele curriculum and will learn to play tons of songs together as a group. Kids will end the camp knowing how to play many of their favorite songs on the ukulele.
Piano Camp: This camp is for current piano students. As you already know, our students learn at their own pace. That means many of them will be coming into camp at different levels. Students can structure their camp how they want. Love composing? Then they can really dive into writing an awesome song. Love learning pop music? Then they will learn pop songs they love. We will also be teaching them other topics that we often don’t have time for in regular lessons (ie: music history and more!).
6. WILL MY CHILD PERFORM?
Yes! On the last day of camp, we will have a special showcase where we will show parents all that we learned. There will be some solo and group performances, depending on which camp they attended.
7. WHO ARE THE TEACHERS?
Our camp will be held by our owner, Kaitlyn Davidson, including our other teachers Elizabeth Jones and Emmy Lawalin. All of the teachers are professional musicians and educators. We will also have several camp assistants.
8. DO I NEED TO BRING AN INSTRUMENT?
If you already have a ukulele, bring it to Ukulele Camp. As for our piano camps, we will have plenty of pianos to work with.
9. DO I NEED TO BUY AN INSTRUMENT?
If you are attending Ukulele Camp, we will provide a ukulele for them if they do not already have one. For piano camps, there is no requirement to have an instrument at home.
10. WHAT AGES ARE THE CAMPS FOR?
Beginner Piano Camp: Rising 1st-6th grade
Ukulele Camp: Rising 3rd-6th grade
Piano Camp: (current students) Rising 1st-6th grade
11. WHAT IS THE CAMP SCHEDULE LIKE?
Every camp is different! We split up the activities which can include singing, learning a new instrument, writing songs, playing games, and more! We always take breaks for snack time and also have lunch as well. We like to share with each other all that we learned around 12:50pm at the end of the camp day.
